Happy Spring!

Spring decided to make a show this year. It was warm and the sun shined all day. It made my heart very happy!

I spent a couple of days last week spring cleaning my kitchen and living room. With that complete it was time to fluff the nest and add some spring/Easter touches. 

I only purchased one item to add to my decor. Let's take a look around.

I had fun creating a carrot themed vignette in the my kitchen corner cabinet.  

I am still loving my faux cake. I added some fabric carrots to the top and a cute sign that says "take time to stop and nibble the carrots. Along with some more of the fabric carrots in a berry basket. 

The next shelf I added some faux forsythia, a carrot themed sign and filled a jar with the carrots I made last year. 

My goal was to spend little to no money on decor this year. I wanted a banner for the top of the cabinet and searched Pinterest for ideas. I encourage you to look outside of the box when adding seasonal touches. There are a ton of things that you can create for only the cost of paper and printer ink. I found some cute carrot themed gift tags and used them to create the banner. 

I used the same faux tulip I had out for Valentine's Day and added the sign I used in this space last year. It still makes me happy, so why not!

I love this little ladder with the metal baskets. It adds a little bit of decor to my counter without claiming a ton of space.

The forsythia came from my floral stash and I kept my every day towel. I round canister holds white sugar and I use the ceramic recipe container to hold my tea bags. The cutting boards are some my handy hubby made from some scrap wood. 

Again I used some of the carrots I made last year and printed something from Pinterest to add to this existing sign. 

Now lets move into the living room. I pulled one the every day signs from the shelf above the television to update for the season.

I found a free printable and cut it to fit over this sign. I used poster tack to secure it. That prevents the original sign from being damaged. 

For Christmas I received some items for this tiered tray. The round and rectangle wooden frames were included with cards to change out for each season. I've found that not all of seasonal cards included fit my style. No worries! Can you guess what I did. If you said print out something, you are right!

I printed out the item displayed in the rectangle frame. 

The only item that didn't come from my stash is the container holding the flowers on the top shelf. I was racking my brain trying to thing of something to hold the florals. That's when I saw the container of black pepper that I had recently emptied. 

I spray painted it and found that the size and shape fit the space perfectly. The bonus is that it fit my goal of not spending money. 

On the hutch I added two small birds and changed out the florals in the rope vase. This is where I spent money. Last year I had one bunch the tulips, and it really wasn't enough. I purchased a second bunch and spent a total of $7.06. I call that a win!

Touches of Love

 Good Morning! I don't have a ton of time to chit chat this morning. We had a busy weekend. We have been working on a project. If you've been around for a while, you know, I love a good project!  It's not one that was wrapped in a day, so I will share it soon. 

I spent some time decorating for Valentine's Day this week. Come on in and take a peek. 

I've had this basket for several years. I love that I can change the items in the basket seasonally. I purchased a small floral wreath (which was less expensive compared to buying stems) and cut it in half.  I had the hearts leftover from another project. I painted them and glued them to skewers and wala I had a new decorative piece for the front door.  

Let's take a peek around. I pretty much used items I had on hand. 

I made the conversation heart banner and added conversation hearts to my faux cake. The candies that were left I added to the Mason jar. 

I like to keep the center piece on my table simple. I need to be able to easily slide it out of the way for toddler crafts and dinner. 

Nothing over the top, just a few touches here and there. 

Now I'm off to mop the kitchen before the little guy gets here. A dirty floor inside the door we use the most is one of the hazards of winter weather.  Have a great week, friends!

Joy in the Ordinary

 Some ordinary, yet joyful moments from my week. 

A new rug and mat for the front door. 

All of the Christmas decor has been tucked away for another year. I enjoyed laying out the decor and putting it back in place.

I find joy in the simplicity of the every day decor. After all of the extras that Christmas brings it feels like a breath of fresh air. 

Surprisingly, our girls are still laying well. I thought it would have dwindled more since it's turned cold.  

This makes Megan happy since selling eggs is her side hustle. She currently has two regular customers and another one that wants on the egg list. 

Have I mentioned one spoiled cat lives here? 

For Christmas he received a heating mat specifically for a cats. It's set up so he can't chew on the cord. The blanket Megan put on him is just too much! *smile* Oh yes, he's one spoiled kitty. 

The tradition of appetizers on New Year's Day continued this year. 

Chuck usually works on New Year's Eve and we are generally sound asleep by midnight. It's nice to have a day when we can munch and I don't have to worry about providing lunch and dinner. 

The bonus is that we were able to eat the leftovers for lunch all weekend!

You would think with all the decluttering that took place last year there would be nothing left. Ha!

As I've been organizing I've found plenty to donate. One thing I have learned is that decluttering and organizing are two things that always need a little attention. 

Look around, really look around and you will find joy... joy in the every day, joy in the ordinary.

Spring Decor

The calendar finally says spring! Now as far as Indiana is concerned it's spring one day with temperatures in the 60's and 70's and then in the 30's the next day. As Megan would say, "that's just the way it be." ha! No worries the warmth will be here to stay soon.

Come on in and take a look at my simple spring decor. 

This shelf is above the area where the TV sits. I added a homemade twine flower container and a little blue bird I recently picked up. The rest of the items are part of my every day décor. 

Next is the top of the living room hutch. I wasn't in love with the items I previously had up here. The only thing that remained was the tobacco basket. Everything else is new. 

Some items were purchased and others were made. Like the container that holds the faux tulips. 

I saw some reclaimed wood risers in a catalog that I loved. For $54 plus shipping, no thank you. I showed Chuck and he was able to recreate them with a pine 1x12x4 that cost under $7. He even has enough left to creative my rectangle cutting board. 

I used some stain from the paint cabinet and I'm a happy girl. 

The candle stick, wreath and stone bird are new purchased. The flameless candle and ceramic house are from my stash. I love how this turned out. I also like that I can keep most of it as everyday décor with a few minor adjustments. 

I like to change out this little tiered tray for each season/holiday. A little bit adds punch to this space. 

Now we're in the kitchen. On my corner shelf I added some faux flowers to my pitcher and some eggs to a cloche. Very simple. 

I kept everything simple in the kitchen. 

For my scale I wanted to create the look of flowers fresh from the florist. 

I used very little of my existing spring/Easter décor. I wasn't feeling the need for a bunch of bright pastels this year. I'm happy with my simple spring décor.
