Good Morning! I never finished the every bit counts challenge. Oops! Seriously, my week was busy and my heart just wasn't in it. I'm happy with the things I did accomplish and that's that. Challenges like those are meant to be fun, helpful and certainly not cause undue stress.
I ended up with Friday afternoon free. Ben and his mommy joined me for lunch and then I did my grocery shopping. I finished up in time for Chuck to arrive home for a long weekend. We had dinner. Chili in the crock pot is a winner! Then we headed out to run errands. It was such a nice evening and it's been a long time since we were out on a Friday night. Don't get excited, it wasn't that exciting!
Our first stop was the nursery to pick up straw bales. Then it was off to pick out mums, a couple of pumpkins, and some mulch. Any idea what I might have done over the weekend?
We then ran into Sam's. When I grabbed the ground beef out for the chili I realized I was almost out of ground beef. Friends, this girl had major sticker shock. The price per package was now over $27!I about died. I guess it had been a while since my last purchase since I was previously paying around $20. I told my sister that we're all going to be skinny, because no one can afford to eat! ha The good news is that neither one of us use a whole pound of beef for most things. That does help the budget.
I was able to squeeze 11 packages of ground beef, 3 hamburger patties and a small meatloaf for the freezer out of two packages of ground beef. I used some of the meatloaf mixture to make up 6 meatballs. Those will become spaghetti and meatballs for tonight's' dinner. In this economy meat needs to be an companion to the meal and not the star most of the time.
Not only does Labor Day signal the end of summer for most, it seems Mother Nature has agreed it's time. I am seeing leaves falling along with the temperatures.
We've seen a big cool down and the rumor is that we could see temperatures dip into the 50's some nights this week. Yikes. That motivated us to spend the weekend outside. Potatoes were dug and all of the raised beds on the back porch were cleared and readied for the next season.
My little store bought bag of 5 pound potatoes that quickly sprouted netted all of this. I was pleasantly surprised. Most of Saturday was spend cleaning up the landscape.
This little area that houses Blacked Eyed Susans was finally finished. Chuck put in the edging and laid the much. While he was doing that I cut grass, pulled weeds and trimmed a bunch of stuff. I really felt using the hedge trimmers that night!Saturday night ended at the ballpark. Fun!
Sunday afternoon we continued to work outside. Our little pool was tucked away for the winter and we puttered here and there. Monday we were ready for a slower day. I've picked up a new door mat and pulled out the fall décor. I played around with decorating between loads of laundry.
It was a full, fun and productive weekend. So now it's time to bring on all things fall!Wendi
