August 1957 Farm Record

I am sharing another entry from my grandparents farm record book. I thought it would be nice to see the people behind the book. This is a picture of my mom's family. By looking at my mom I would guess that this picture was taken sometime around 1953 or 1954. At the time of the journal entry mom would have been seven.

From left to right: My grandparents, Pop and Mom, Bobby, Billy, Jack, Dianne and my mom, Vicki.

I am sorry that the August Income page is upside down. Blogger must be playing a trick on us all. I even tried to save the picture upside down hoping that it would flip it right side up, but no luck.

I just love being able to have a glimpse into the past. Can you imagine buying a bedroom suite for $259.75, paying $3.58 for phone service or buying school clothes for five children for $130! Boy, times have changed.

  1. It's wonderful that you have that info. My grandparents also had a farm and I have one of their record books full of this kind of info. It's so interesting to me, and I love that I have a piece of their life from back then.

  3. I'm glad your sharing this with us. I love history!

I'm always amazed at how little people could get by on back then, but I'm sure it seemed like a lot to them at the time!

  4. Wendi,

This is so amazing that your parents actually kept a journal of all this stuff. Makes me want to start keeping one now of all the stuff we buy and how much it all costs.
